Gain a good foundation for throwing on the wheel, focusing on centering and pulling up the clay. Hand building techniques such as slab, pinch, and sculpture will also be covered. Creativity and exploration is encouraged. Finishing techniques such as glazing and texturing also explored.

Students will experiment with multiple mediums such as pencil, charcoal and paints, and any other medium they feel comfortable in. Experimentation is encouraged! Students will attain a broader understanding of how light and shadow defines 3-dimensional objects and how to place them in an atmosphere. All levels welcome.

Introduction to Painting: Teen and Adult

This course will provide a basic understanding of the principles of painting with acrylic or oil paints for the beginning student. The student will gain a strong foundation and understanding of the fundamentals of painting while experimenting with line, color, shading, modeling and blocking. This class focuses on the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and composition from direct observation of still life objects, landscapes, and the figure. A structured approach will feature demonstrations and gallery tours. Group and individual critiques reinforce concepts. Personal attention given so students can work at their own pace. Bring drawing pad and pencils or painting materials to the first class. A clothed model will be used for one session. All levels welcome.

Teen & Adult Darkroom: 7 Week Course
INSTRUCTOR: Ori
Tuesday(s), 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Learn the basics of black and white darkroom techniques. Topics include: film developing, paper selection, exposure, making enlargements and use of filters. Work first with simple photographs, then bring objects from home to create interesting and personal pieces. Later, work from black and white negatives. Bring your camera and some of your photos to the first class, materials list will be discussed. Students can try out their cameras and watch a metering demonstration on a field trip to a near-by location on May 18th.

Watercolor Exploration for Teens (age 13 & up)

Learn the basics of painting in watercolor on paper, wet in wet, dry brush as well as under-painting, calligraphy (line), and spatter. We will look at the great artists who worked in watercolor like Sargent, Homer, Turner, Charles Reid and Burton Silverman. The watercolor techniques will be taught by doing paint-alongs, snow scenes, landscapes and buildings. Each semester we will cover different artists, and subject matter. Request a materials list.

This course is perfect for any high school student who is in the process of researching and applying to art schools. Topics will include: university research, specific application requirements, portfolio review and development, presenting artwork, and interview preparation. Students may be asked to research contemporary art and may be given assignments to continue the growth and strength of their portfolios. Students will receive individual attention and advice. Working in a painting medium the student feels most comfortable in, this intermediate course travels deeper into the world of painting. Working from still life, photographs, and models, the student will have a true understanding of how to mix colors and place certain elements next to each other to achieve a realistic feel. Different eras of art will be discussed such as the renaissance, impressionism, and modern art to show how paint can be applied in several ways. Individual styles will be encouraged! Teens can be better photographers than adults. You are less worried about taking a “bad” picture. You’re experimental and love taking pictures of your friends and life in general. Learn to take interesting portraits, stunning vacation photos, and document the life of a teen from your own unique perspective. Learn Photoshop, iPhoto, and other popular editing programs. No previous experience necessary but intermediate and advanced photographers are welcome. There will be group projects as well as individual instruction.
