Andrea Gianchiglia
Andrea Gianchiglia, local artist of Bedminster, graduated from the Hartford Art School receiving her BFA in illustration with a minor in art history. Working as a full time artist with private commissions and freelance illustration, Andrea also teaches at various art centers such as the Visual Art Center of NJ, Somerset Art Association, Hunterdon Museum of Art, and conducts private lessons out of her studio in Bedminster.
She teaches all ages and all levels. Some of her adult classes featured include oil painting, drawing, color theory, mixed media techniques, and of course her favorite, animal portraiture. A list of her classes for each season can be found on her website.
Andrea has had both individual and group shows throughout New Jersey and the tri state area, along with various juried shows where she has won several awards for her specialty, animal portraiture. Andrea is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and has exhibited in national Juried shows, one of which being the ‘Annual National Juried Exhibition of N.J.E.A.A “Art of the Horse,” and the ‘Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.’ Andrea is also represented by “Natures Walk” Wildlife gallery in Bernardsville, NJ.

Demonstrations about the structure and anatomy of animals will be given, and textures such as fur and feathers will be addressed. The workshop will look at how to start a drawing loosely with gestures in charcoal and graphite, and explore nuances like the differences in drawing dog and cat noses by seeing the structure beneath the fur. | 10 Week Class This class will feature weekly projects geared around both old and new masters of the art world. Students will learn about Pointillism with Seurat, Cubism with Picasso, Realism with Rembrandt, Impressionism with Van Gogh and Expressionism with Pollock, just to name a few. A variety of materials will be used, including acrylics, oil pastels, charcoal, chalk pastels, clay, watercolor, and printmaking. | 10 Week Class This class welcomes all young students interested in learning about the fundamentals of drawing and painting. For the first half of class, drawing basics will be learned, while the second half focuses on an introduction to color theory and painterly techniques using acrylic paint. | 10 Week Class Students will be introduced to intermediate drawing techniques. Learn how to draw different types of fabric textures and patterns as well as metallic and glass objects. Students will explore graphite and charcoal powders, toned paper and conté pencil. Three and four-point perspectives will be discussed. Achieving likeness in portraits and self-portraits as well as figure gestures and proportions will also be covered. | 10 Week Class Various painting techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, stippling, monochromatic value studies and much more will be introduced. Elements of brush handling, light and shadow, tonal contrast, washes, glazes, color theory and composition will be covered. Students will be able to learn the process of bringing a drawing through various painting stages to a completed masterpiece. Examples of both old masters and modern artists will be shown for inspiration. Students may work in either acrylic or oil paints. Demonstrations will be shown in class. | 10 Week Class This course will help students learn not only the fundamentals of using oils, but how to fine tune the details using different techniques. Particular attention to color theory, composition, light and shadow, form, and brush handling will be covered. Using either a photograph or a still life set up by the instructor, students will learn to develop their painting, while maintaining their individual style. | 10 Week Class This class has a particular emphasis on allowing students to develop their own style, encouraging a strong sense of self in their artwork. The class will maintain a solid foundation of the fundamentals of drawing and painting, with demonstrations in pen and ink, charcoal and graphite. Observation and exercises using color and monochromatic colors with still life, figure, portraits and perspective will be experimented with and explored, in addition to rendering form with light/shadow in all black and white media. | 10 Week Class Portfolio Development will address how to present and photograph art, as well as develop a strong and diverse portfolio. Discussions about particular schools, majors and outlets/jobs in the art field will be included. Students will also learn about direct observation of still lifes, light and shadow, and form to create fully rendered drawings in graphite and charcoal with texture and three-dimensionality. The class will cover strong understanding of the figure, anatomy, gestures and proportion, in addition to 1, 2, 3 & 4-point perspective and proper understanding of facial measurements and tonal variations to form three dimensional features.
