Anne Kullaf

Anne Kullaf studied graphic design and fine art at the Univeristy of Bridgeport in Connecticut and at The Art Students League of NY. Her work is currently featured in a traveling museum exhibit, The New Reality: The Frontier of Realism in the 21st Century. She regularly exhibits her work in New York City at the Salmagundi Club and the MIchael Ingbar Gallery. An elected-artist member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club (elected to Board of Directors, 2008), the Salmagundi Club and the International Guild of Realism, she teaches drawing and painting at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Somerset Art Association.

Fall Foliage in Pastel

Working from their own reference photos or sketches, students will use hard and soft pastels to create fall foliage landscapes. Expressive use of color and composition will be emphasized. Demonstrations will be given on layering, color mixing, drawing natural looking trees, water and other elements of the landscape. Request a materials list.

The Big Picture: Large Scale Painting
INSTRUCTOR: Kullaf

10 WEEK CLASS
Students will learn to develop a plan for and create a large format (30x40 in. or larger) painting. Surface selection and preparation, reference photo selection, scaling/proportion, preliminary sketches, materials selection, composition, layout and special tools will be demonstrated. Students will work from their own photos in this class. Paintings will be created using acrylics. Keeping the painting loose and expressive will be emphasized, using a variety of tools to create expressive brushwork and spontaneity.

Visual Interpretation

Open to all artists working in two-dimensional media, this class focuses on the expressive use of color and composition. Each week a new compositional and color challenge will be presented to the class. The instructor will demonstrate and discuss a variety of approaches to the challenge, as well as provide historical examples. Group and individual critiques will be provided. This class will encourage students to work on alternative surfaces with pastel and acrylic, both as mixed media and combined with collage. Color and composition will be emphasized, as well as using the materials to their best advantage to create unique effects on paper. All materials included.

Paint It Your Way

10 WEEK CLASS
Students will have the opportunity to work in the medium of their choice (oil, acrylic, pastel or any combination of each). Demonstrations will be given each week using a one or more of these three media. Emphasis will be on painting expressively and using each medium to its fullest advantage. All styles of painting (representational and abstract) are welcome; experimentation with new media and processes is encouraged. Request a materials list.

This class is for advanced oil painting students who are interested in developing their individual style and furthering their technical proficiency. Technical demonstrations relative to the medium, as well as to concepts such as compositions, color theory, form and value, will be provided in each class. Historic examples will be used to stretch the students’ imaginations and encourage experimentation. Assembling a portfolio and preparing work for presentation in exhibitions will also be covered.
