Encaustic Painting
INSTRUCTOR: Pressman
Sunday(s), 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Encaustic is a centuries old method of painting with molten beeswax or wax along with varnish and a dry oil pigment resulting in luscious, vibrant colors. These workshops are an introduction to encaustic, with focus being on learning basic fusing techniques, safety issues, and a brief time to explore collage and layering. The workshops are self-directed, which means that no one is taught a particular way to paint; rather, each student is encouraged to explore their own creativity. Encaustic is a uniquely spontaneous medium in many ways, as working with wax helps one to let go of \"attachment to outcome\". Students are encouraged to take risks, let go of preconceived ideas, and most of all, to have fun exploring this versatile medium. The materials cost covers the use of the plates, burners but mostly the paint and mediums associated with encaustic.
